Schedule actual matches in Planner
Use Tournament → Planner after matches have been generated on Draws. Planner assigns each actual match to a tournament date, court, and scheduled start time for use by later operational screens.
Draft and Planner store different kinds of work. Draft places virtual matches inside one format plan, while Planner places generated actual matches. Draft assignments are not copied into Planner. See Plan a draft schedule and Build draws, groups, and playoff brackets for those earlier workflows.
Before you start
- Set the tournament start and end dates on Overview. Planner offers every date in that inclusive range.
- Add the courts that will be used.
- Check each date’s Day Settings. Start sets the first grid row, and Duration normally sets the Planner slot length.
- Generate the required actual matches on Draws. Creating a draw without generating its matches gives Planner nothing to place.
A playoff match can be placed before both sides are known. Its card uses a saved source label or TBD for each unresolved side.
Generated round-robin matches normally enter Planner as Ready. Playoff matches can be Scheduled while they wait for earlier winners or qualifiers, then become Ready when both sides are known. The Planner data can also contain Live, Finished, and Retired matches, but only Scheduled and Ready cards support normal Planner dragging.
An assigned non-bye Walkover can appear in the grid. An unassigned Walkover and an automatic bye Walkover do not appear in Unscheduled. Do not use Planner to operate or correct completed matches.
Read the Unscheduled list
The left panel is Unscheduled. It contains actual matches that have no saved scheduled time, except matches with a Walkover status.
The heading count is the number of unscheduled cards visible under the current Event, Round, and Stage filters. Each card shows:
- the event category and event name;
- the draw name;
- Tour N for a round-robin match, or Round of N, Quarter final, Semi final, or Final for a playoff match;
- each known entry;
- a source such as
Group 1 — P1, orTBD, for an unresolved side.
Select Hide match list to give the grid more space. Select Show match list to restore the panel. The panel must be visible when you want to drag an assigned card back to Unscheduled.
Nothing to schedule. means only that the current filtered list is empty. With All events, All rounds, and All stages selected, it means that no non-walkover match without a scheduled time remains, or that no actual matches have been generated. With narrower filters, other unscheduled matches can still be hidden.
The Planner sidebar counter is not filtered. It counts every match returned as unscheduled for the tournament, so it can be higher than the count in the filtered Unscheduled heading.
Use the filters
Planner has four visible selectors:
- Event narrows matches to one event.
- Round narrows matches to one actual draw. Its options are rebuilt from the selected Event and Stage.
- Stage narrows matches to a round-robin tour or a playoff stage.
- Date selects the tournament-day grid.
If the current Round is incompatible with a new Event or Stage, Planner resets Round to All rounds. Round-robin stage options use Tour N. Playoff options use Round of N, Quarter final, Semi final, and Final.
Event, Round, and Stage filter the Unscheduled cards. They do not hide assigned cards from the selected date’s grid. Instead, assigned cards that match every active match filter receive a stronger outline. With all three match filters cleared, no filter outline is applied.
Date does not filter Unscheduled, because those matches have no assigned date. It changes which assigned cards are shown in the grid.
Read the date and time grid
Planner initially selects the tournament’s start date. Date contains every calendar date through the tournament’s end date.
The grid has time rows and one column for each configured court. The values above it show the effective Start and Slot duration:
- Start comes from the selected date’s saved Day Settings. Without a saved row, it is
09:00. - Slot comes from the selected date’s saved Duration. Without a saved row, it uses the app-wide Default match duration.
Planner does not use the selected format plan’s duration override or End. It builds complete slots from Start toward midnight. If the remaining time before midnight is shorter than one Slot, that final partial period is omitted. The last visible slot therefore ends at or before midnight.
These values differ across the planning screens:
- Format uses its own modeled End and can use a plan duration override.
- Draft can use the plan duration override and its saved End.
- Planner uses the selected date’s Day Settings, with the app-wide duration fallback, and has no separate End control.
If no courts exist, Planner says No courts defined for this tournament. Add courts in tournament settings first. If no complete slot can be built, it says No time slots — check the day start time and slot duration. Correct the courts or Day Settings on Overview, then return to Planner.
Assign one match
Open Tournament → Planner.
- Select the required Date.
- Find the match in Unscheduled.
- Drag it to a free court-and-time cell.
- Check that its card appears in the target cell.
The assignment is saved immediately on the match. Planner reloads its lists and refreshes the sidebar counters after the save completes. The assigned match leaves Unscheduled and becomes available to later screens such as Match day.
An occupied cell does not accept the drop. Planner marks the occupied target as unavailable and leaves the assignment unchanged.
To move an assigned Scheduled or Ready match, drag its grid card to another free cell. The new court and scheduled time replace the previous assignment.
To remove an assignment, show the match list and drag the grid card into Unscheduled. Both its court and scheduled time are cleared. The match returns to the unscheduled list unless a current filter hides it.
Cards in other statuses do not support a normal drag. Point to one to see Cannot move this match (status: …). Use the operational or result workflow for a Live, Finished, Walkover, or Retired match instead of trying to reschedule it here.
Select and place several matches
Multiple selection is available only in Unscheduled.
- Select one card normally.
- Hold
Ctrlon Windows orCommandon macOS while selecting cards to add or remove individual cards. - Hold
Shiftand select another card to add the visible range from the last selected card through that card. - Drag one selected movable card to the first free cell.
Planner uses the selected cards in their current visible list order. Starting at the target cell, it fills courts from left to right, then continues on the next time row. It skips occupied cells and never returns to cells before the target.
If the remaining grid has too few free cells, Planner assigns the cards that fit and leaves the remainder unscheduled. It reports Not enough free slots: N match(es) left unscheduled. This capacity-limited result is partial, not all-or-nothing.
After a successful multi-match placement, including a capacity-limited partial placement, Planner clears the selection. A single-card drop does not clear its selected id automatically, so the selected badge can remain after the card leaves the list; select empty space in the panel to clear it. If a bulk assignment request fails, selection can remain and other requests from the same group may already have succeeded. Bulk assignment uses separate requests and is not transactional. Reload or reopen Planner and check every intended card before retrying.
Set filters before selecting. A card hidden by a later filter can remain included in the N selected badge, but hidden cards are omitted from the group dragged from the visible list. The placement order also follows the visible filtered list.
Only Scheduled and Ready cards should be included. A non-movable card cannot start a drag itself, but the current bulk flow does not recheck every selected card’s status when a movable selected card starts the group drag. Clear any Live, Finished, or Retired selection before placing the group.
Move assigned matches
Assigned cards in the grid do not support multiple selection. Move one Scheduled or Ready match at a time by dragging it to a free cell or back to the visible Unscheduled panel.
Live, Finished, Walkover, and Retired grid cards are not draggable. Their tooltip shows Cannot move this match (status: …). Returning an allowed match to Unscheduled clears both saved parts of its assignment: the court and scheduled time.
Correct off-grid assignments
Planner can load a saved scheduled time that falls between the current slot boundaries. It places that match in the cell whose time period contains the saved time, then shows the exact HH:mm in an amber badge. Point to the badge to see Scheduled at a time that doesn’t align with the slot grid.
Changing the selected date’s Start or Duration changes how existing assignments are grouped into cells. It does not change their saved times. A previously aligned card can therefore become off-grid, move visually to another row, or fall outside the visible grid.
More than one saved assignment can map to the same court and visual cell. Planner displays only the one with the earlier saved time. The other assignment remains saved and is not returned to Unscheduled.
Use this correction order:
- If necessary, adjust Day Settings so the assigned time is inside the visible grid.
- Drag the visible off-grid card to an exact free slot boundary.
- If another card was hidden in the same visual cell, wait for Planner to reload and move the newly revealed card.
- Repeat until every card has its own cell and no amber time badge remains.
Moving a card to an exact grid cell replaces its old scheduled time with that slot’s time. Do not assume that changing Day Settings alone repairs the saved assignment.
Know the limits of Planner
Planner is a manual placement screen. It does not:
- transfer Draft assignments;
- create draws or matches;
- run Auto Schedule;
- check shared-player conflicts or overlapping player intervals;
- enforce rest time or player availability;
- enforce playoff bracket dependencies;
- apply hard or soft Not before constraints;
- use stage-specific match durations;
- warn when saved match intervals overlap;
- replace Match day for calling, starting, and conducting matches.
During a drop, Planner checks only whether the target visual cell in the current grid is already occupied. It does not run the separate conflict or scheduling services. Off-grid times and changed Day Settings can therefore produce overlapping intervals or several assignments in one visual cell.
The current tournament navigation exposes Planner as the supported scheduling screen. This guide does not rely on scheduling controls that are not available from that navigation.
An assignment belongs to its actual match. Deleting group matches, resetting a playoff bracket, or fully rebuilding matches deletes those match records and their assignments. A Draft assignment remains separate and cannot restore them.
Fix common problems
There are no actual matches
Select All events, All rounds, and All stages. If Unscheduled still says Nothing to schedule. and the grid is empty on every date, generate the required actual matches on Draws.
There are no courts or time slots
Add courts on Overview. For missing slots, check the selected date’s Start and Duration in Day Settings. Planner needs at least one complete Slot between Start and midnight.
A match is missing from Unscheduled
Clear Event, Round, and Stage filters. The match may already be assigned on another date, may have a Walkover status, or may have been deleted when its draw matches were rebuilt.
A card will not move
Point to the card. Only Scheduled and Ready cards support normal Planner dragging; another status shows Cannot move this match (status: …). If the card is movable, choose a free target cell.
The target cell is occupied
Move the existing card first or choose another cell. Planner does not replace the card already shown in the target.
Only part of a selection was placed
Planner ran out of free cells after the selected starting point. The successfully assigned cards stay in the grid, and the reported remainder stays in Unscheduled. Start earlier, free more cells, or select another date.
A card shows an amber time
Its saved time does not align with the current slot grid. Drag it to an exact free cell. If Day Settings recently changed, review the rest of that date for re-grouped or hidden assignments.
The sidebar count is higher than the panel count
The sidebar counts all unscheduled matches, while the panel heading counts only cards under the current match filters. Clear Event, Round, and Stage to compare the totals.
An assignment looks lost after changing Date
An assigned match appears only on the grid for its saved date and does not return to Unscheduled. Select the original date. If it is still absent, check whether changed Day Settings placed it outside the visible grid or underneath another assignment in the same visual cell.
Two assignments occupy one visual cell
Planner shows the earlier saved time and hides the other card. Move the visible card to a free aligned cell, wait for Planner to reload, then move the card revealed underneath it.
Before you continue
- Select every tournament date and check each court column.
- Clear the match filters and confirm the full Unscheduled count.
- Resolve every amber off-grid badge and visual collision.
- Check the intended match order and player requirements yourself; Planner does not validate them.
Use Match day for the operational queue, court activity, and match starts. Those procedures are covered in the next chapter.
