Use the Rating screen and export ratings

Use Rating in the main sidebar to see aggregated player rankings across every finished tournament. Points are summed per player per category from the best N results within a configurable window; doubles categories can either award both partners the full team score or split it evenly.

Before you start

  • Prepare seasons and age restrictions in Set up app defaults and directories. The Rating screen filters on age-restriction names, and existing entries link a tournament to a specific age category.
  • Finish the tournaments you want to include and record their final places and tournament points on Tournament → Results. Only tournaments with the Finished status contribute to the rating, and only entries with a positive point value are counted.
  • Confirm the tournament-points schemas on the tournament form. Singles points come from the singles schema and doubles points come from the doubles schema. Editing a schema does not recalculate points already stored on completed tournaments.

Open Rating

Select Rating in the main sidebar. The screen opens with the current window and best-N value shown at the top, action buttons for Settings and Export to Excel on the right, an age-restriction dropdown, and one tab per category — MS, WS, MD, WD, XD.

If no window is configured, the table shows Set a date range in Settings to see the rating. Open Settings to configure the window as described below.

Configure the rating window

Select Settings in the top right of the Rating screen to open Rating settings. The dialog has these fields:

  • Rolling window or Fixed date range — the window mode. Rolling mode is measured backward from today.
  • Window (weeks) — the length of the rolling window, defaulting to 52 weeks. Only shown when Rolling window is selected.
  • From and To — the inclusive dates used when Fixed date range is selected. Both dates are required in that mode.
  • Count best N tournaments — the maximum number of tournament results counted per player per category. The default is 50 and applies to every category equally.
  • Doubles points per player — how a doubles tournament result is credited to each partner. Award each partner the full team score gives each player the full value. Split the team score evenly between partners halves the value.

Select Save to apply the settings and refresh the rating. Select Cancel to close the dialog without changes. Changing the window or best-N value applies to every category at once.

Read the rating table

Each row lists the player’s rank, name, club, total points in the active category, and a Tournaments value written as counted / played. For example, 4 / 12 means the player has twelve tournament results in the window but only the four highest-scoring results contribute to the total.

Expand a row to review the tournament-by-tournament breakdown. The breakdown shows the tournament name, its date, and the points that tournament contributed. Results that fall outside the best-N cut are tagged excluded (over best-N) so it is clear which tournaments raised the total and which were dropped.

Switch categories with the MS, WS, MD, WD, and XD buttons. Only one category is visible at a time. If no tournaments contribute in the current window and category, the table shows No completed tournaments with points in this period.

Filter by age restriction

Use the Age restriction dropdown above the table to narrow the rating to a specific age category:

  • Open (no restriction) shows every eligible player.
  • Each other option is a distinct age-restriction name pulled from the shared dictionary. The name is deduplicated across seasons, so a name such as U15 matches every restriction with that name regardless of the season it belongs to.

The filter is ephemeral — closing and reopening the screen resets it. Eligibility is evaluated per tournament using that tournament’s age restriction, so a player still needs a Born value to pass an age-restricted filter.

Export the rating to Excel

Select Export to Excel to open the Export to Excel dialog. The dialog offers two variants:

  • Short — Category totals only (5 sheets + breakdown). One sheet per category with rank, player, club, total points, and the counted / played value, plus a breakdown sheet with the tournaments that contributed to each top-N total.
  • Detailed — Category totals plus a column per tournament with points earned. One sheet per category with the same summary columns and one additional column for every tournament in the window, tagged counted or excluded as appropriate.

Select a variant and confirm. The operating-system save dialog asks for a folder and file name. When the file is saved, the screen shows Saved to {{path}}. If the save dialog is dismissed, it shows Export canceled.

Seed a draw by rating

Use Seed by rating on Tournament → Entries to fill exact seeds from the current rating. See Declare and apply seeding for the full procedure. In summary:

  • Configure the rating window under Rating → Settings before opening the entries screen.
  • Choose Fill empty seeds only to keep existing declared seeds or Overwrite all seeds to replace every declared value.
  • Select Apply seed by rating. The app sorts each event’s entries by rating from highest to lowest and assigns exact seeds 1, 2, 3, and so on. Ranges are not used.
  • Events with existing matches are skipped and reported as EVENT_HAS_MATCHES; remove the affected matches first.

Fix common problems

The rating is empty

Only finished tournaments with positive tournament points contribute. Check Tournament → Results for the intended tournaments, and check that the tournament-points schema stores points for the recorded final places. Editing the schema does not backfill previously stored values; open the results and re-apply if necessary.

The window is not configured

The screen shows Set a date range in Settings to see the rating. Open Settings, pick Rolling window or Fixed date range with valid dates, and save. Seed by rating on Tournament → Entries also refuses to run and reports Rating window is not configured. Configure it in Rating settings.

A player appears in the wrong age filter

The filter matches on age-restriction name only, so entries in different seasons that share the same name are grouped together. Eligibility for a specific player still follows the age restriction attached to each contributing tournament, and a player without a Born value cannot pass a restriction that has a birth-year threshold.

Doubles totals look too high or too low

Open Rating settings and check Doubles points per player. Award each partner the full team score doubles the effect compared with Split the team score evenly between partners. Both partners always receive the same distribution, so the split is symmetric.

Excel export cannot be saved

Confirm that the target folder exists and is writable. If the system dialog is closed without picking a file, the screen shows Export canceled; retry and select a location.

Before you continue

  • Confirm the tournament list that should feed the rating — only Finished tournaments with recorded points count.
  • Check the rating window, best-N, and doubles-points mode against the intended sporting rules.
  • Compare the rating in the desired category with the exported Excel breakdown before publishing standings elsewhere.
  • If you plan to seed a draw from the rating, review the resulting seeds on Tournament → Entries before generating any matches.
