Record match results and monitor tournament progress

Record each match outcome from Match day or Draws, then use Match results, Standings, and Activity to check the tournament while play continues. A saved result updates the match record, operational timing, group statistics, and any directly dependent playoff match.

Before you start

  • Generate the actual matches on Draws and resolve both sides of the match.
  • Check Tournament → Settings for the correct Points per set and Best of values. Best of is the number of sets a side must win.
  • Use Run the tournament on Match day to start matches, manage courts, or cancel an accidental Live start.
  • Before changing a group result, check that its standings are not locked.

Understand result statuses

A result changes a waiting or live match into one of three completed statuses:

  • Finished records a normal result from completed set scores. Tabminton calculates the winner from the number of sets won.
  • Walkover records a selected winner without set scores. Automatic advances through empty playoff positions also use this status.
  • Retired records the selected winner and can retain partial or completed set scores from play before the retirement.

The earlier statuses describe a match that has no result yet:

  • Scheduled is waiting for one or both sides, commonly from an earlier playoff match.
  • Ready has both sides and has not started.
  • Live has started on a court.

On Draws → Matches, selecting a match in Scheduled, Ready, or Live status opens Enter Result with Finished selected. Selecting a completed match opens Edit Result. For the full status definitions, see Understand match statuses.

Record a normal result

For a live match, open Tournament → Match day, then select its occupied court or live match card. To record a result directly or edit an existing result, open Tournament → Draws, select the event and phase, open Matches, then select the match.

  1. In Enter Result or Edit Result, leave Finished selected.
  2. Enter the points scored by each side in Set 1 and the following sets.
  3. Check that the correct side has won the required number of sets.
  4. Select Save Result.
  5. Review the displayed winner and every set score.
  6. Select Confirm & Save.

The form adds another set when all current sets are decided but neither side has reached Best of. If you enter a losing score below the normal winning threshold and leave the opposite score empty, the form can fill the likely winning score automatically. Check both values before saving.

For a normal result, Tabminton validates each entered set against the tournament’s Points per set setting:

  • the winning side normally reaches that value with at least a two-point lead;
  • play can continue by two points after a tie near the target;
  • the cap is nine points above Points per set, where a one-point lead is accepted;
  • a set cannot be tied, incomplete, or added after the match is already decided;
  • one side must win the number of sets configured as Best of.

The winner is calculated from the valid set scores; there is no separate winner selector for Finished. Confirm & Save stores the result, records the current time as the actual end, and supplies an actual start when one was missing. It also recalculates rest guidance for the affected players’ waiting matches.

Record a walkover

Use Walkover when the match is decided without normal play.

  1. Open Enter Result or Edit Result for the match.
  2. Select Walkover under Result.
  3. Under Winner, select the winning side.
  4. Select Save Result.
  5. Check the winner and Walkover badge, then select Confirm & Save.

No set fields are stored. In round-robin standings, the selected side receives a win and a 1–0 set result, while neither side receives points for the match.

Before you save: Confirm that both sides are real participants. Bracket generation and qualifier progression create automatic bye walkovers themselves; do not replace an automatic advance with a manually entered result.

Record a retirement

Use Retired when play ended early and an official winning side must be recorded.

  1. Open Enter Result or Edit Result for the match.
  2. Select Retired under Result.
  3. Enter any set scores that should remain in the record.
  4. Under Winner, select the official winning side.
  5. Select Save Result.
  6. Check the chosen winner, retained scores, and Retired badge, then select Confirm & Save.

The winner is taken from your selection, not inferred from the partial score. Scores for a retirement are informational and are not checked against the normal completed-set rules. Blank values in a partly entered set are stored as zero, so either enter both sides of every retained set or remove that set before saving.

The retained sets and points contribute to round-robin standings. Check the table after saving.

Check playoff progression

Saving Finished, Walkover, or Retired for a playoff match immediately places its winner into the matching side of the next bracket match. When both sides of that next match are known, its status becomes Ready.

  1. Save and confirm the result.
  2. Return to the playoff phase on Draws → Matches.
  3. Check the winner in the next bracket position and the next match status.

The final has no downstream match, so saving its result ends this progression path. Group standings do not feed linked playoff slots merely because a group result changed; first complete, lock, and push the standings using Lock standings and progress qualifiers to playoff.

Correct a result

Use Tournament → Draws → Matches for the draw that contains the match. The Match results page is a read-only journal and does not open the result form.

  1. Select the completed match to open Edit Result.
  2. Correct the result status, set scores, or winner as required.
  3. Select Save Result.
  4. Review the complete corrected outcome.
  5. Select Confirm & Save.
  6. Check the affected group table or downstream playoff match.

For a round-robin match, every saved correction recalculates the group’s current standings. A locked group cannot be edited at all, including a score-only correction. Follow the safe unlock procedure in Lock standings and progress qualifiers to playoff, then correct, relock, and repush as required.

For a playoff match, changing the winner replaces that side in the next match. If the next match already has a Finished, Walkover, or Retired result, the earlier winner is locked: you can correct set points only while preserving the same winner. Resetting the next result is not available in this form.

Before you correct an earlier playoff match: Check the entire downstream path. Saving an accepted correction propagates the winner again and changes the directly dependent match to Ready when both sides are known. This also happens after a score-only correction that preserves the winner of an earlier match when the dependent match already has a completed result. The dependent match keeps its saved result and timing fields, but no longer has a completed status. Open it on Draws → Matches, verify its sides and result, and save the required result again.

A dependent match in Scheduled, Ready, or Live status does not lock the earlier winner. A winner correction can therefore replace a side after the dependent match has started and change that match from Live to Ready while its court and actual start remain saved. Resolve the dependent match’s operational state before continuing play.

Saving any correction records a new actual end time at the moment of the correction while retaining an existing actual start. This can change the displayed duration, the player’s Last match time, and calculated rest guidance. Recheck those operational values after saving.

Review the Match results journal

Open Tournament → Match results. The page lists completed scheduled matches in Finished, Walkover, or Retired status and excludes automatic bye rows.

Each row shows:

  • When, using actual end when available and scheduled time otherwise;
  • Event and its category code;
  • the draw and round-robin tour or playoff stage;
  • Side 1, Side 2, and the saved set scores;
  • WO for a walkover or RET for a retirement;
  • Duration, when both actual start and actual end form a positive interval.

Use Date, Event, Phase, Draw, and Round to narrow the journal. The available choices respond to the other selected filters. Search player or pair… matches text in the two displayed side names and does not change the available filter choices.

The summary shows the number left after all filters and search, followed by the total number of matches included in the journal. Select When, Event, Round, or Duration in the table header to change the sort direction. The initial order shows the most recent actual end or scheduled time first.

Journal scope: A completed match appears only if it has a scheduled time. A result recorded for an unscheduled match is not listed, even when the save created actual start and end times. The journal also excludes automatic bye walkovers. Use Draws → Matches when you need to verify every result in a draw.

Monitor Standings during play

Open Tournament → Standings and select the event. Use the page to compare the saved group statistics and current order across all groups in that event.

Only Finished, Walkover, and Retired results contribute to played matches, wins, losses, sets, and points. Scheduled, Ready, and Live do not contribute. Saving or correcting a result recalculates an unlocked group table.

Do not lock a table merely to monitor it. Lock only after all its matches are complete and every result is correct. Locking freezes the positions and prevents result edits. The complete locking, manual-order, and playoff-push workflow is described in Lock standings and progress qualifiers to playoff.

Monitor player Activity

Open Tournament → Activity to identify accepted players who still have unfinished matches and to review their recent and next scheduled times.

The page separates players into:

  • Still playing when at least one of their entries has a Scheduled, Ready, or Live match in an enabled category;
  • Eliminated when they have no unfinished match in the enabled categories.

The category badges under Active and Done show that breakdown. When several categories are present, use their checkboxes in the top bar to limit the view. The summary’s active count and the two sections follow the enabled categories, but the total continues to count all accepted players. A player can therefore move to Eliminated in the filtered view while remaining active in a category you disabled.

Last match shows Live if the player is currently in a live match. Otherwise it shows the latest saved actual end. Next match shows the earliest scheduled time among the player’s Scheduled and Ready matches; an unscheduled next match shows no time.

Activity is an operational summary, not an official final-placement report. It includes only accepted tournament players and derives active status from existing match assignments. Use the future Tournament Results chapter for official places after that chapter is available.

Limits and consequences

  • Match results is read-only and includes only completed non-bye matches that have a scheduled time.
  • Saving a result from Scheduled or Ready completes the match without requiring it to be started on Match day.
  • Every result save sets actual end to the current time and fills a missing actual start from scheduled time or the current time.
  • A round-robin result cannot be edited while its standings are locked.
  • A playoff winner cannot change after the immediately dependent match has a completed result, but a score-only correction that preserves the winner is allowed.
  • Any accepted correction to an earlier playoff match can change the directly dependent match to Ready, including a dependent match that was Live or had a completed result. Its existing result and timing fields are not cleared automatically.
  • Retired scores are retained without normal score validation; the selected winner controls the outcome.
  • The operational pages load their current data when opened. Return to a page after saving elsewhere to review the latest state.

Fix common problems

Save Result reports an invalid set

Fill both scores and check the tournament’s Points per set value. A normal set needs the configured target and two-point lead, or a valid deuce score up to the cap. Remove any set entered after one side already reached Best of.

The wrong winner appears for Finished

The winner is calculated from sets won and cannot be selected manually. Correct the set scores. Use Retired only when the official winner differs from the partial score because play ended early.

A group result cannot be selected or saved

The standings are locked. Use Tournament → Standings to inspect the dependency warnings and follow the safe unlock procedure before editing the result.

The playoff winner cannot be changed

The next match already has a completed result. The earlier winner is locked, although set points can still be corrected without changing that winner. Review and resolve the downstream result first; the result form has no automatic reset action for it.

A completed match is missing from Match results

Check the match on Draws → Matches. The journal excludes automatic byes and every match without a scheduled time. Clear the filters and search, then check whether the row has a scheduled assignment.

Match results shows an unexpected date or duration

When prefers actual end over scheduled time. Duration requires actual start and actual end, and a correction changes actual end to the correction time. Verify the original and correction workflow on Draws → Matches and Activity.

Activity shows a player as Eliminated

Enable every category checkbox first. Then check whether the player’s entry has any existing Scheduled, Ready, or Live match. An unscheduled match still keeps the category active, but an unresolved future bracket slot does not belong to the player until progression places their entry there.

Before you continue

  • Clear the Match results filters and compare the journal with each draw’s completed matches.
  • Check all unlocked group standings after the latest results.
  • Inspect the next bracket match after every playoff result or correction.
  • Review Activity with all relevant categories enabled and investigate unexpected active or eliminated players.
  • Lock and push group standings only after every result and official order is correct.
